My opinion on the Texas Long Range Plan for Technology...

In my opinion, the Texas Long Range Plan for Technology is a great idea. I believe that there must be high standards and expectations in order for anything to be accomplished successfully. I think that some of the practices outlined in the Texas Long Range Plan for Technology will be difficult to accomplish. There are many factors that can lead to the downfall of the Texas Long Range Plan for Technology. They inlcude: Money, Time, Staff/professional development. Without these factors or limited numbers of these factors, it will be hard to reach the necessary goals of the Texas Long Range Plan for Technology. The hardest factor to overcome will be the issue of time. As texas teachers, we are all on a strict deadline marked by the new State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, or STAAR, test. On my campus, we implement the C-Scope curriculum. In the C-scope curriculum, there are technology TEKS imbedded in the lessons. Due to time constraints and the fast pace of the curriculum, they are sometimes not all met. It is much easier to skip the technology TEKS because they are not tested. The issue is not that they are not important, it is that they are not tested and too easily skipped. I believe that in order for them to be enforced, that there needs to be some accountability added to them. I know that they are goals that are to be implemented in the very near future. Maybe there will be a change soon…
